Transferable Skills

Transferable skills are capabilities that keep their value when you change roles, industries or careers: stakeholder management, hiring, budgeting, writing, selling ideas, judgment under pressure. For most experienced professionals they make up well over half of what makes them good, which is why career changes rarely start from zero.

The practical exercise: list your ten strongest professional capabilities, then mark each as industry-specific or portable. The portable list defines which bridge roles are open to you and at what level; it is negotiating capital, not a consolation prize.

The common mistake is underrating them. 'Everyone can run a meeting' is false; a decade of getting decisions out of difficult rooms is a scarce, priceable skill in every industry.

Thinking about changing direction?

Reading the definition tells you what the move is called. It does not tell you what it cost the person who made it. On Nawaya you talk to someone who changed field themselves, for 30 minutes, one to one, and the first conversation is free.
